Level 3 is a dungeon in Zelda 1. It is associated with a manji in the game's official manual and in The Legend of Zelda Encyclopedia due to the dungeon being shaped like a manji in the first quest of the game. "Manji" is the Japanese name for a Sauwastika.

|Level 2||Level 4|
Level 3 can be entered and completed at the beginning of the game and it is located in a green, rocky area at the southeast edge of the brown forest in southwest Hyrule. The entrance is the mouth of a brown statue of a face.
The dungeon contains several enemies, locked doors, and walls that can be bombed. Like every dungeon in the game, a Dungeon Map and a Compass can be found to aid in navigation. The dungeon's main item is the Raft, which is guarded by two rooms full of red Darknuts. The Raft is needed to reach Level 4 and collect one of the Heart Containers.
At the northern edge of the dungeon in a room hidden by a movable block, an Old Man asks Link "Did you get the sword from the old man on top of the waterfall?", which is a hint toward the location of the White Sword directly above the waterfall at north Hyrule. The boss of the dungeon is a blue man-eating plant known as a Manhandla found on the east side of the level. After its defeat, a Heart Container appears, a Triforce Shard is rewarded in the next room, and Link is transported back outside of the dungeon.
The only item required to complete the level and obtain the Raft is a weapon to defeat the Manhandla and red Darknuts. The Manhandla can be defeated with any sword, Bombs, Arrows, or the Magical Rod. Bombs are especially effective against the Manhandla. Darknuts can only be defeated with a sword or Bombs. The White Sword and Blue Ring are useful for defeating the Darknuts. A Magical Shield is useful for blocking the Manhandla's projectiles. The dungeon contains 4 locked doors and 5 Small Keys, but only 1 Key is required to complete the level and obtain the Raft. By bombing both walls that can be bombed in the dungeon, the level can be completed without collecting any Keys or defeating any Darknuts.
Old Man Hints
While in Level 3, the game's brown color is replaced with a lighter tan. The affected sprites include Link's skin, the Sword, shields, the Boomerang, Arrows, and the Raft.
