Level 4 is a dungeon in Zelda 1. It is associated with a snake in the game's official manual and in The Legend of Zelda Encyclopedia due to the dungeon being shaped like a snake in the first quest of the game.

Level 4 can be entered and completed after the Raft has been obtained from Level 3. It is located on an island in the middle of Lake Hylia that can only be reached by walking into the green dock just northwest of the starting area to ride the Raft across the lake. The entrance is the mouth of a green statue of a face.
The dungeon contains several enemies, movable blocks, locked doors, and walls that can be bombed. Like every dungeon in the game, a Dungeon Map and a Compass can be found to aid in navigation. The dungeon's main item is the Stepladder, which is guarded by a room with Like Likes, Bubbles, and Zols. If a Magical Shield has been purchased, the Like Likes in this room can steal it. The Stepladder is needed to complete the dungeon and complete Level 5, Level 6, and Level 7.
At the northwest corner of the dungeon, an Old Man tells Link to "Walk into the waterfall," which is a hint about an Old Woman who gives Link various hints for Rupees inside the waterfall at north Hyrule. A Manhandla is found at the northwest edge of the dungeon. The room directly to the east of the Manhandla is a secret room full of Rupees that can be accessed by bombing a shortcut through any of its walls. The boss of the dungeon is a two-headed dragon known as a Gleeok found at the northeast edge of the level. After its defeat, a Heart Container appears, a Triforce Shard is rewarded in the next room, and Link is transported back outside of the dungeon.
The only item required to complete the level is the Stepladder and a weapon to defeat the Gleeok and enemies inside. The Gleeok can be defeated with any sword, Bombs, or the Magical Rod. A source of Fire, such as a Blue Candle, Red Candle, or Book of Magic, is useful for illuminating dark rooms. Bombs are useful for either defeating the Manhandla or skipping the fight with it by bombing through the hidden Rupee room. A Magical Shield is useful for blocking the projectiles from both the Manhandla and the Gleeok. The dungeon contains 5 locked doors and 4 Small Keys, but only 2 Keys are required to complete the level. An additional Key is needed to obtain the Compass. To unlock every locked door in the dungeon, an extra Key must be brought in either from another dungeon or from purchasing one in a shop.
